Atollic® TrueSTUDIO®, the leading commercial GNU/Eclipse™ IDE for ARM® devices is now available for use on Linux™ workstations.

Jonkoping Sweden – 26 June 2017 – Atollic AB, the fast-emerging leader in tools for development on ARM-based devices, has announced that the Atollic TrueSTUDIO development tool suite has been released for use on Linux workstations. The just-released version 8.0 of Atollic TrueSTUDIO IDE is now available for use on both/either Windows® and Linux development machines.

Atollic TrueSTUDIO IDE has rapidly become the preferred Eclipse™/GDB/GCC-based software development environment for developers working with ARM-based devices. The Linux hosting announcement is expected to widely increase the popularity of this tool. Developers now have the choice of hosting Atollic TrueSTUDIO on Windows®, Linux or mixed hosting environments. Additionally, Linux servers have become increasingly popular for larger development teams who use centralized servers for nightly builds.

Atollic TrueSTUDIO is now used by more than 24,000 embedded developers, worldwide. This large and growing user base values the single installation package for the entire tool environment, the easy start of new projects with project wizards and support for thousands of ARM-based microcontrollers, and commercial polishing and extensions that save valuable development time and help find bugs quickly.

Atollic TrueSTUDIO IDE is built on the foundation of the open source GNU compiler (GCC) and GNU debugger (GDB) with a number of commercial enhancements and extensions. The GNU C/C++ compiler and debugger tools are now the de-facto standard and default tool solution for embedded development. Smaller companies appreciate the better return on investment compared to traditional proprietary tools; and large, multinational corporations who value a tool-chain that works with almost all CPU architectures in common use, and commercial tools based on open source help avoid vendor lock-in.

Atollic TrueSTUDIO IDE is available in two editions: TrueSTUDIO Lite can be downloaded and used for free with no code-size restrictions and is ideal for prototyping, proof-of-concept, and new hardware evaluation; while TrueSTUDIO Pro—a paid upgrade edition—is described as the essential toolkit for ARM development because of its collection of powerful professional development tools and utilities along with technical support.  Some of these are event- and exception trace, system optimization, live expressions, memory analysis, hard fault diagnosis and RTOS-aware debugging. Version 8.0 of Atollic TrueSTUDIO IDE also includes v.6.3.1 of the GCC compiler for ARM, a project importer for IAR users, thread-aware debugging support for FreeRTOS and SEGGER embOS, and a number of enhancements and improvements. Atollic TrueSTUDIO Lite edition can be downloaded free of charge from the Atollic website (www.atollic.com/resources/download).
